Soverighn or 10 Peso coin

What do you think? I'm looking at buying a gold sovereign or a 10 peso coin. Have them both right now but have really gotten fond of the Sovereigns recently.

Got them both, .9167 vs .900 purity gold, .2411 vs .2354 AGW, pretty much a toss up between the two. The Sovereign is better known world wide while the Peso coins comes with both larger 20 and 50 siblings and smaller 2, 2.5, 5 peso siblings. I usually go cheap which means I hold much more peso coins.:ok:

I have no preference, actully I like them both, but know that the Sov is the most counterfeited coin ever.

1. Buy what you like.

2. Buy what you can resell easily.

Sovereigns are one of the most recognized coins in the world stemming from Great Britians dominance in much of the world. I've found it's WAY easier to sell sovereigns than any Mexican coin.

Re: Soverighn or 10 Peso coin

Don't want to sell easily, want to have and hold. What is is with most people when it comes to numismatics? Do you have to sell? Gee isn't nice to have a fondle factor, hold on to caress, and feel the history????

Here you go, this is what I am going to buy. Over a thousand years older than you me, and anyone else alive on this planet.

Buy what you like! I like the Sovs, myself. YMMV.

Still am going to buy a Sov or a Peso though. This one is just a whatever coin. Love the fact that it's older than Methuselah.

I have both I prefer the sovereign for it's know the world over - they used them for their fighter pilots if got shot down - even Bond carries them in his money belt - 20 of them....:111::111:

You are correct, sir. Fifty sovereigns to get an agent out of trouble.

Cortez is right about that. And, the buy/sell spread is more favorable for the Peso. With gold at 945, the buy price for 10 peso is 223.52 and the sell is 240.03. For the Sovereign, it is buy at 224.92 and sell at 250.64. Those figures are for one coin, no quantity deals factored in.

So, the Peso is $10 cheaper to buy and they only pay you $1.50 less to sell it back. Not bad. I like the Sovereigns myself, but that is something to consider.

Edit: those figures are from APMEX.
10 Peso

The early films/books had it a tad different: they just updated it for the NEWBES. :thumb.aspx::111::111:

Thanks for reminding me - you are NUMBER ONE. :Surrender::applause_

Cool! Greek or Roman, it looks like Mercury? I'm starting to get into ancients myself. To handle something 1 to 2 thousands of years old, to think of the people who handled this coin over the ages, gives a person some perspective!

Alright, unbeknown to me, he sold it last week, the one on the right. So, Ia gonna go for this one, on the left, it's 131-163 A.D. Think Greek. Did I tell you that my high school term paper was on Numismatics? Who would a thunk that me, wanting bullion would fall into numismatic coins? Ag, i'm with you, having handled a few coins older than 75 years, I wonder, who else touched these? Imagine touching, well, through an ANACS holder, something that is over 1,000 years old. May have to pick up a non graded just to touch.

the very last DOGE who surrendered to Napoleon 1797. Venice from 441 AD to Kingdom 700 AD to ending 1797 AD. I forgot - the fellow who fought Muhammed the PROPHET (double-crosser) in the 630s AD too.

Re: Soverighn or 10 Peso coin

Regarding the Sovereigns being one of the most counterfeited gold coins.

1) that's because they are the most common and most recognised gold coin in the world

2) Solved with the purchase of the appropriate Fisch wallet (that also conventiently covers Krugerands). The wallet will set you back approx. the same price as a sovereign but forever more you'll be protected from fakes
